Live group rides

On this page 8

Flow's group ride feature lets you and your crew share live positions on a map while you ride. A host creates the session, shares a short join code, and everyone — riders and spectators — can follow along in real time.

Privacy notice: what going live means

While you are live, your position, display name, battery level, and speed are visible to everyone holding the ride link or code — in the app and in a browser alike. Treat going live as broadcasting all four.

Ride data is stored and associated with your account. Review the Flow privacy policy for full details on what is collected and how it is used.

Only share a ride code or link with people you want to see your location.

Creating a ride session

  1. Tap Go Live on the main map screen.
  2. Flow generates a short ride code.
  3. Share the code with your crew — via text, voice, or however works in the moment.
  4. You're now live. Your position starts broadcasting immediately.

Joining a ride

Via code:

  1. Open Join Ride from the map screen.
  2. Type the ride code.
  3. Your position joins the session map.

Via link: Tap a shared ride link. The app opens and joins the session directly.

Only share a ride code or link with people you want to see your location — anyone with it can watch the ride live.

During a group ride

All active participants appear on the map with their avatar and real-time position. As riders move, their positions update continuously. Each rider has a distinct trail color so you can track individual paths at a glance.

You can see each rider's display name, battery level, and speed alongside their position.

Spectating from a browser

Ride sessions are viewable from a web browser — share the ride URL with anyone who wants to follow along. The web viewer shows:

  • Live rider positions on a map
  • Per-rider color-coded trails
  • Participant names, battery level, and speed
  • The route if one was loaded before the ride started

Spectators in a browser see the same rider data as participants in the app.

Ending a ride

The host can end the session for everyone by tapping End Ride. Any participant can leave at any time by tapping Leave Ride — this removes their position from the group map but does not end the session.

Overlay a planned route

If you've built a route before starting your group ride, Flow can overlay the planned route on the group map so riders and spectators can see where the ride is heading. Build and load your route before tapping Go Live.

Tips for group rides

  • Share the code before you split up. Signal drops fast once you're in motion.
  • Use a device with mobile data. Group ride features require an internet connection; offline maps cover the map tiles but not live broadcasting.
  • Check battery before you go live. Broadcasting uses background location, which has a small but real battery cost.
  • If a rider's dot disappears from the map, they may have lost signal. Their last position remains visible until they reconnect or the session ends.
